The organisers behind the highly anticipated Diwali celebrations in Northampton held an event on 25 September 2012 at the town’s Guildhall, giving attendees a sneak preview of what to expect at this year’s event.
Now in its twelfth year Northampton’s annual Diwali celebration has grown year-on-year to become a major cultural occasion in the town’s event calendar. Celebrated in the centre of town the event is an amalgamation of culture, music, dancing and carnival style energy. This year’s event will be held in the Market Square on 10 November 2012 from 10am onwards.
The pre-launch showcased what has been achieved to date with the Diwali event and what the organisers, IHWO, have been working on for this year’s event, which has been themed the ‘Winter festival of lights’. A strong emphasis has been placed on ‘Partnerships’. In addition to working with numerous primary schools and community groups, IHWO has this year’s also partnered with the likes of St Andrew’s hospital, the NHS and the Mayor’s Charity, to name a few.
The pre-launch event was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress, the leader and deputy leaders of the borough council, primary school head teachers, councillors and council executives, and members of the press. Attendees committed their continued support for the Diwali event, which is seen as a great example of how different communities can come together and celebrate.
